Abstract

This article examines the significance and contemporary relevance of the legacy of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi within the context of Turkic-Islamic civilization. The study analyzes the spiritual, moral, cultural, and civilizational dimensions of Yasawi’s teachings and highlights their contribution to the formation of the Kazakh worldview, religious consciousness, national identity, and statehood. Yasawi’s doctrine is presented as a system centered on moral purification, spiritual perfection, self-knowledge, divine love, and human solidarity. The article also traces the historical spread of the Yasawiyya order across Central Asia, Anatolia, the Balkans, the Volga-Ural region, and the Indian subcontinent, emphasizing its lasting cultural and intellectual influence. Drawing upon historical sources and scholarly studies, the author evaluates both Eastern and Western approaches to the study of Yasawi’s heritage and discusses the development of Yasawi studies during the Soviet and postindependence periods. Particular attention is given to the role of Yasawi’s legacy in contemporary Kazakhstan, especially in the processes of spiritual renewal, the scholarly understanding of traditional Islam, and the reevaluation of national cultural values. The article concludes by proposing scientific, educational, and cultural initiatives aimed at preserving, promoting, and further researching Yasawi’s rich intellectual and spiritual heritage.
