RELIGIOUS AND ETHICAL DIMENSIONS IN THE WORLDVIEW OF KHOJA AHMAD YASAWI: THE ISSUES OF THIS WORLD AND THE HEREAFTER, SIN, HALAL AND HARAM

Abstract

This article comprehensively examines the spiritual-cognitive content and educational significance of the concepts of worldly life and the Hereafter, death and the Day of Judgment, sin, halal and haram as presented in Khoja Ahmed Yasawi’s “Divan-I Hikmet”. The study provides a scholarly analysis, based on Yasawi’s hikmets of the place of these concepts within the Islamic worldview and their role in the spiritual perfection of the individual. In addition, the article explores, within the framework of Yasawi’s teachings, the transient nature of human worldly existence, the importance of preparing for the Hereafter, accountability on the Day of Judgment, the discipline of the nafs, and the paths to spiritual refinement. The article substantiates that the fundamental principles of Islamic ethict include avoiding sin, observing the boundaries between halal and haram, attaining spiritual purification through sincere repentance as a vital spiritual connection between the individual and the Creator. Furthermore, it highlights the educational and cognitive value of the moral, spiritual and Sufi principles embedded in Yasawi’s intellectual heritage and demonstrates their contemporary relevance to the spiritual and moral development of society. The findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the system of spiritual values underlying Yasaw’s wordview and facilitate a scholarly interpretation of the fundamental principles of the Islamic worldview.
